Background

Gururaat Raghavendrasya Ekaikasmin Pradakshine
Sapta Dweepa Mahee YaatraPhalam Vindati Maanavaha

Our Gururaat Yatiraat Mantralaya Sri Raghavendrateertharu is so great Punyavantaru that Sri Krishnavadhootaru has described in Sri RaghavendraTantra that devotees performing the Pradkshina of  Sri Raghavendrateertharu in Mantralaya with great devotion will yield the benefit of all the Yatras of this world (Sapta Dweepa Mahee Yaatra Phala). What more is required than this?

Mantralaya Sri Raghavendrateertharu's greatest devotee Uttanooru Sri Gopaladasaru's personality and the unforgettable contribution of our great Great Dasavarenyaru are described in Mantralaya(496).

Meaning

Uttanooru Sankapura Venisompura are all situated on the sacred bank of Tungabhadra. Very near to our Sri Raghavendrateertha Gurusarvabhoumaru's Mantralaya. Great Daivee Chetanas Aparokshagnyanis have taken Avatara and shined here. It is the fortune of our country and our Mothertongue. Sri Gopaladasaru was born  to a Satvika  Sajjana Aastika Couple  Haritasya Gotra by name Murari and Venkamma in Mosarakallu village near Devadurga, Dist: Raichur,Karnatake-India. After the passing away of Murari Venkamma left Mosarakallu owing to the trouble by the brothers of Muraari(Daayaadi Kirukula).  Gopaladasaru's previous name was Bhaaganna. Came to Sankapura by doing the work of a maid servant Venkamma took care of her sons. There was a kind man by name Gundappa, he was the village accountant (Shanubhoga) he liked the good nature of Venkamma and Bhaaganna. He performed the Upanayana of Bhaaganna along with his son and he himself taught along with his sons. Bhaaganna was clever, sharp and intelligent with extraordinary memory power. The study of 10-12 years was completed only in two years. Shanubhog Gundappa amazed to know the power of knowledge of Bhaaganna. The entire Sankapura praised Bhaaganna.

Na Gaayatryaa Param Mantram
Na Maatuhu Para Devataa

There is no such great Mantra as Gayatri Mantra and there is no such Goddess as mother. So Bhaaganna acquired Siddhi by Gayatri Japa. Performed Japa like a Tapa with great intense and concentration. For two years continuously engaged in Gayatri Japa.

His rivals came forward and poured the boiling water on him, but they could not  divert  attention and the Nishthhe of Bhaaganna. Once a Serpent Cobra encircle the whole body when he was performing Japa, the Serpent played with the hood on his head, but Bhaaganna never perturbed. The Devotional Concentration was so high and immense that when others said about this, he said I did not know at all. All believed that he is a great chetana. Some orthodox people opine that he might have the Amsha of Ganapati. Any way ther is no doubt that Bhaaganna has attained the Siddhi Anugraha of Gayatri. By the Sadhana and Bhakti Bhaaganna became Aparokshagnyani and efficient in all the Shastras. Owing to the imagination Pratibhaa soon Bhaaganna became a poet Varakavi Born poet.  The king of Gadwal Rajaram simply nodded his head for the great knowledge and the Scholarship of Bhaaganna as no one can defeat in debate. Rajaram appreciated and presented fertile lands and a good house in Uttanooru. From that Bhaaganna became Uttan oru Bhaagaana. Though he became rich and well to do never forgotten the days of poverty. Always liberal and magnanimous in giving happily to others  As he was well versed and efficient in Jyotishya lot of people came to him to know the future and proper remedy. It went on well. Once Bhaaganna had been to Adoni, stayed in the house of Diwan Panganaama Timmanna and in the Maruti temple at Adoni Mangarayanagudi started telling Jyotishya.

Once Sri Vijayadasaru also came to Adoni. Every day Keertana was arranged. One day Sri Vijayadasaru while entering the temple asked Bhaaganna, how is your business of astrology? Simply replied everything is fine. Again after going from the temple Dasaru stood for a while and gazed at Bhaaganna. Bhaaganna also gazed. The four eyes joined together. Immediately Sri Vijayadasaru said Bhagaana close the shop. Bhaaganna stood stunned. Became dumb. Aparokshagnyana became Jaagruta. Decided to become Haridasa that too became the Shishya dearest Shishya of Sri Vijayadasaru. It is the will and wish of God, Sankalpa of  Sri Hari to become Dasa. Sri Vijayadasaru happily accepted Bhaaganna  as his Shishya and called Sri Gopaladasaru, offered Gopalavithala  Ankita

It is quite interesting to know that Aiji Venkatanarasimhacharya a Sudha Pandit the dearest shishya of our Sri Vijayadasaru desired that his son Venkataramacharya must also become a great scholar. Though he attained proper age did not study and proved dull in studies. By the Anugraha of Aparokshagnyani Sri Gopaladasaru Venkataramacharya became a great Pandit and attained Sanyasa by the 26th. Pontiff Sri Bhuvanendrateertharu as Sri Vyasatatvagnyateertharu of Venisompura. Could not continue the Peethha and became a Bidi Sanyasi and remained in Venisompura. Sri Vyasatatvagnyateertharu was the Second Bidi Sanyasi. The first one was Sri Yadavendrateertharu and the third Bidi Sanyasi is Sri Suvidyendrateertharu. Sri Bhaagannadasaru  - Sri Gopaladasaru is wellknown as:

BHAKTIYALI  BHAAGANNA

In devotion no one can compete him. We have already described about the Gayatri Mantra Bhakti. Sri Gopaladasaru by the Anugraha of Sri Vijayadasaru always visited Mantralaya. Acquired the Anugraha of Sri Raghavendrateertharu. Composed Padas and the Suladis with devotional ecstasy and creative spontaneity. We will never forget this Suladi. It is the masterpiece of  our Bhaktiyali Bhaaganna. It is important to know that Sri Gopaladasaru is fortunate to have Pratyaksha Darshana of Rayaru:

Dina Dinakilli Nutana Poojegalaaguvavu
Dina Dinakilli Nutana Nutana Utsavagalaaguvavu
Dina Dinakilli Nutana Nutana Keertigalaaguvavu
Dina Dinakilli Nutana Nutana Vaartegalaaguvavu

Dinakara Shata Teja Jana Naathha Taanilli
Anuvaagi Taanindu Janara Paalipudakkanumana Salladu

Gunagana Paripurna Gopalavithhala
Anoraneeya Yembuvage Yeneyaaro Jagadolage

The above Suladi described the routine and the Seva Vaibhava of our Yatiraat Gururaat Sri Raghavendrateertharu in Mantralaya. What ever is described are all practically taking place even today to this day.

The greatest contribution of Sri Gopaladasaru is Ayurdaana to Sri Jagannathadasaru. All the Dwaita followers - Devotees of Mantralaya are greatly indebted to Dasavarenya Sri Gopaladasaru. Sri Vijayadasaru once came to Manvi, as usual the daily routine started for Gopaalaa. As soon as the satvikas listen the sound of Taala, Tamboori and Gejje, satvikas opening the doors welcome dasaru with great respect and regard and offer Gopaala. Actually they were all eagerly waiting for the arrival of Sri Vijayadasaru. Next the turn of Sri Srinivasacharya's house, a great Sanskrit scholar, Sudha Pandit. He did not welcome and failed to respect and regard. But Sri Vijayadasaru said, Acharya today you have to come to my camp for Teertha and Prasada. Simply said ok ! At the time of Prasada he did not go Dasaru sent his shishyas to call him and bring him. But Acharya replied, that owing to the stomach pain he has take his meals early, so finished his lunch replied. Dasaru said alright it may be like that. Even in the evening called for Keertana but did not come ! Srinivasacharya slowly developed the stomach pain and it became severe and serious. Started vomiting including the medicine. Became lean, sick and weak. Came to Mantralaya and Prayed to Rayaru. That night  Rayaru appeared in the dream of  Acharya and said owing to the Ninda of Swottama and Stottama you got this one. You have insulted your own sister's son Aparokshagnyani Sri Vijayadasaru as Koosi Maga Dasa. So go to Cheekalaparavi and request Sri Vijayadasaru. When Srinivasacharya met Sri Vijayadasaru in Cheekalaparavi, Dasaru directed him to Uttanooru Sri Gopaladasaru. After the arrival of Srinivasacharya Aparokshagnyani Sri Gopaladasaru came to know that Guru Sri Vijayarayaru has sent Acharya for Aayurdaana. So in a miraculously way cured the stomach by asking Acharya to eat Jawara bread and did Aayurdaana. Then the ego of Srinivasacharya came down and accepted Dasatva became Sri Jagannathadasaru. Sri Varadendrateertharu offered Ankita Jagannathavithala.

This Aayurdaana was for the compostion of Harikathhamrutasaara. The unforgettable contribution to all the Madhwas. The credit of Sri Harikathhamrutasaara goes not only to Manvi Sri Jagannathadasaru but also to the following :

1. Mantralaya Sri Raghavendrateertha Gurusarvabhoumaru
2. Cheekalaparavi Sri Vijayadasaru
3. Uttanooru Sri Gopaladasaru.

Uttanooru Sri Gopaladasaru has said in the following Pada:

Yennidalelenu Aago Sadhanavella Ninnade Vijayaraya
Yenna Saamarthhyavenu Janma Janmantarake Ninna Bideno Vijayaraya
Eeg Ee Yugadolu Sadhanavembudu Naa Kaane Vijayaraya
Yogi Ninna Karunavaagiddavagella Saagi Baruvado Vijayaraya

The whole Siddhi and Sadhana is by your Anugraha Guru Vijayara. I cannot achieve in if I take several Janmas. So I am completely surrendered to you. I will never leave you. You are Sarvswa to me. Now at this time  in this Yuga I am not finding Sadhana anywhere. Yogivarya Sri Vijayaraya everything will follow if you are kind and affectionate towards me.

Uttanooru Sri Gopaladasaru attained Haripaada on Pushya Bahula Ashtami. Not only Uttanooru but the Punyadinotsava is celebrated through out the world where ever our Mantralaya Devotees are residing.

This is the Mahima of the Devotees of Mantralaya Rayaru, When such is the Mahima of the Rayara Devotees  we  cannot imagine the Mahima of  our Mantralaya Rayaru and  really  words fall short to describe !
