The grandeur of Vidwat Sabha in Madhurai and
the respectful regard of Pandit Sri Neelakantha Dixit to our Sri Gururayaru
are described in Mantralaya(272).
Sri Raghavendrateertharu completely involved in the pooja of Sri MoolaRamadevaru and forgotten the world itself. A mere devotional look of our RAYARU will lead us to emotional and a sense of bliss and satisfaction. After Mahamangalarati Rayaru distributed Teertha to all. On that day Tirumalaraja arranged a grand Bhikshaa to our Gururayaru and offered the maximum hospitality and thus acquired the punya. The sober king treated all the brahmins,satvikas and the pandits in a decent way and took his meals after all were fed properly. We are amazed to know the simplicity, kind heart, the magnanimity and the fine nature of the king of Madhurai, so we call Madhurai as the Temple City. Accepted Phala Mantrakshate by Rayaru. That day evening after the pravachana and Aasheervachana the king came near to His Holiness and bent to Sri Raghavendrateertharu and requested to adorn the chair as the chairman of the Vidwat Sabha - Vidwad Goshthi, as per the suggestion of Neelakantha! Dixit. Rayaru gladly accepted the invitation.
The next day Tirumalaraja sent Golden pallakki and requested Rayaru to sit. Rayaru plainly refused to sit. King pleaded humbly, though Rayaru was reluctant, accepted that honour and immediately offered the whole thing to Sri Hari with gratitude that this is all due to the Anugraha of Sri Hari. With all vaibhava, Mangalavaadya, Vedaghosha,Jayakaara of satvikas,Bhajans of the devotees Rayaru was welcomed by the king with warm affection. Neelakantha Dixit also welcomed Rayaru with respect and devotion.They both lead Rayaru to the dias to adorn the presidential chair of Vidwat Sabha. A large thick gathering of public to witness the proceedings of the sabha were present. Public and public every where! They all looked at Rayaru with intense devotion. As per the schedule the pandits who were well versed, efficient and expert in the field of knowledge of Vedanta,Nyaaya,Tarka(logic),Meemaamsa(Criticism), Dharmashastra,Vyakarana were all on the dias on one side and the shi! shyas and the pandits of the Vidya Mutt : Sri Narayanacharya,Sri Venkatanarayanacharya,Sri Rayaru’s poorvashrama son Sri Laxminarayanacharya and the poorvashramas elder brother Sri Gururajacharya sat on the other side of the dias. Sri Raghavendra Gurusarvabhouma Yatiraat sat in the middle.Our Bichali Sri Appanacharyaru has in Mangalashtaka :

This Vidwat Sabha continued for four days. The pandits of the Mutt took part in the debate in all the faculties and won. The Madhurai Pandits were famous and well known Adwaitas. Till then no one has defeated and no one had the courage to face them. Such stalwarts accepted the defeat in the debate of Dawita and Adwaita. They all appreciated the style of debate of Rayarus Parivaara. For three days this went on continuously.
There is a saying in Sanskrit:
Vaade Vaade Jaayate Tatva Bodhaha
The time was properly spent, it was like a Satsanga. When the two sandal wood pieces are rubbed, we get the fragrance, in the same way this debate - Vaada clarified to the whole world the importance of Sri Harisarvottama. Thus the debate, discourse brought very good results to the satvikas of Madhurai and came to know the greatness of our divine saint Sri Raghavendrateertharu.
On the fourth day some pandits pointed out
and said that there are certain mistakes in the book of Sri Mannyaayasudha
of Malkheda Sri Jaiteertharu and opened the debate. At this juncture the
elder brother of Sri Raghavendrateertha’s
poorvashrama and the favourite student of our Sri Sudheendrateertharu Sri
Gururajacharya participated in the Vaada - Debate. Quoted the sentences
of Anuvyakhyana written by Acharya Madhwaru and in Sudha that is elaborated
by the Teekakara Sri Teekarayaru - Sri Jaiteertharu .put forth the views
of Nyaayasudha and said there is not even a single mistake in this Sudha.
For four continuous hours of debate of Sri Gururajacharya made all
the pandits dumb.They cannot speak out anything more and accepted the suzerainty
of Sri Harisarvottama and appreciated Sudha and our Sri Jaiteertharu. The
whole gathered public praised Sri Gururajacharya and made Jayaghosha. Not
only that Neelakantha Dixit and other pandits, all
appreciated the style,knowledge and
the examples quoted. They were all quite appropriate. With a smile
declared that Sri Guruajacharya had won this debate. They all nodded their
heads for the versatile manner of argument of Sri Gururajacharya. As all
were literate and scholars acquire the Blessings of Sri Saraswati with
one voice they expressed their happiness in the Temple City. The people
of Madhurai really enjoyed this great Sabha of Vedanta we can say. Highly
proud and satisfied to the knowledge of Rayara Mutt.
They imagined when the pandits are so bright,wise,well read,intectually sound then what about our Gururayaru? They were all eager to listen to Rayaru.
