Raghunatha Bhoopala the king of Tanjore was a great devotee and a patron of Vidya Mutt - Rayara Mutt of Kumbhakonam in those days during the period of our Parama Guru Sri Vijayeendrateertharu and Sri Sudheendrateertharu. As per the guidance and the advice of the Swamijis he ruled meticulously and did the welfare to the citizens of Tanjore to the maximum extent. His son Vijayaraghavanaik was also good and noble, but believed on his bravery and chivalry. Not so friendly and co-ordination among the contemporary kings of various states and did not interact properly from time to time. This resulted to misunderstanding, jealousy and hatred, all the kings turned as enemies and one day it resulted in war, but the most unfortunate thing is that all the kings came for war together. It was a tough task to face all of them at a time. Vellore,Madhurai,Mysore and even the Bijapur kings joined together and came for war to Tanjore. The war was severe and Vijayaraghavanaik was defeated, the wealth of Tanjore including the food grains were all looted by the enemies. At last as per the well wishers of Vijayaraghavanaik a sort of human understanding was created by Sri Raghavendrateertharu between the victorious kings and the defeated King of Tanjore.
Owing to the war the wealth was completely snatched away by the enemies. The treasure of wealth became empty, even the store's reserve store of food grains was also insufficient to survive. Added to this sever famine spread in Tanjore. No rains, crops failed, severe drought prevailed in Tanjore, even the drinking water also fell short. At this juncture the kind king of Tanjore sold out all the valuables from his Raja Bhandaara and arranged for food to the citizens, but the effect of famine was abundant that also did not suffice. There is a proverb in Kannada that :
Ravanana Hottege Kaasina Sunti.
For Ravana Ravanasuraas stomach a pennyaas ginger, it means that is not sufficient. The Natures wrath went on increasing day by day. The Taandava Natya of hunger and thirst cannot be described in words.
The well wishers of Vijayaraghavanaik after a long discussion said that his forefathers were all the shishyas of the Kumbhakonam Vidy Mutt, acted as per the guidelines, so now let us go to Kumbhkonam meet the divine pontiff Sri Raghavendra Gurusarvabhoumaru and request him to solve this grave situation prevailing in Tanjore. So one fine morning the king Vijayaraghavanaik came to Kumbhakonam, met the Swamiji and detailed the entire situation. Rayaru patiently listened, took pity towards the sufferers of the famine. Then said right now the condition is very bad. I will come to Tanjore and take the stock of the situation. Sri MoolaRamadevaru is there to help us and Bless us. With these kind words Rayaru sent the king and his attendants. It is quite heartening to know that our Divine Swamijis have taken active participation in the protection of the citizens and engaged in Praja Hita Kaarya.
Dear Devotees, we are quite happy to announce to the world that Mutts and Gurujis were not only limited to teaching and preaching but also to help the society in times of necessity. Our Pontiffs have lead a noble life, always thinking for the welfare of the public. To put them on the right path and to help what ever possiblities were open. Our great Swamijis of Vidya Mutt – Rayara Mutt Sri Vijayeendrateertharu and Sri Sudheendrateertharu were on the top of the list of help and affection.
Sri Raghavendrateertharu now decided to follow the same noble footsteps of his great Gurus. Rayaru has shown to the world, that swamiji and the Mutts are not only limited to accept the gifts and to bless the devotees, but also to donate liberally in times of necessity to the public. The wealth of the Mutt is the gift of the devotees, there is nothing wrong to help them with that wealth. It is not exaggeration that Perhaps no pontiffs in the history has taken so bold, liberal and magnanimous steps towards the public so far. A very rare and noble humanitarian kind concern towards the satvikas. We are really happy and proud that our Rayara Mutt Swamiji Sri Raghavendrateertharu liberally and practically taken the steps to materialise, Mantralaya Gurusarvabhouma has composed Vyakhyana to:
Geeta Taatparya Nirnaya and Geeta Vivratti
Our Geeta Acharya Sri Krishna Paramatma has said in Bgavadgeeta:
Yogaha Karma Sukoushalou
This is quite meaningful. Rayaru followed this efficiency, honesty whole heartedly through out his life, even to the last minute of Brindavana Pravesha. This is nothing but Yoga of Lord Krishna, we can say Jana Seva.
Again Karmannyevaadhikaarastae , Do your duty properly, what ever may be the nature of our work.
Here our Rayaru with all seriousness tried his level best to put an end to the famine of Tanjore with intense care, efficiently and honestly. So Sri Raghavendra Gurusarvabhoumaru Mantralaya Yatiraat is our Kalpavruksha and Kamadhenu.
Regarding the steps taken by Rayaru in Tanjore
will be continued again from Mantralaya(252), owing to the Aradhana
the Miracle in Bichali at the Japadakatti will be described in Mantralaya(249),
Mantralaya(250) and Mantralaya(251)..
