Background

In the Divine Play of Sri Krishna, the Guru becomes the Student , the sacred bond of Sri Prahalada and Sri Narada is described in Mantralaya (2060).

Meaning

Among the countless warriors who perished on the soil of Kurukshetra was Sri Baahikarajaru, struck down by the thunderous mace of Sri Bhimasena. Yet for such a noble soul like Sri Baahikarajaru, death was no end, it was only a passage, a doorway opening to a higher destiny.

Sri Baahikarajaru was none other than Prahlada himself, the eternal devotee of Lord Narasimha, born again to fulfill the Lord’s divine plan. When Baahikarajaru fell on the battlefield, it was only a brief moment in time. After that, his soul merged with Sri Prahlada Rajaru in Harivarsha, rising in its true, radiant form ever devoted to the Lord.

When the thunder of Kurukshetra faded and the dust of battle lay still, Dharma once again rose to the throne. Dharmaraja/Yudhishthira, crowned by destiny, ruled the vast land of Bharata Varsha with justice, compassion and unwavering righteousness.

Sri Krishna, the divine charioteer and eternal guide, had fulfilled His sacred mission of protecting Dharma, uplifting His devotees and leading them through the storm of war. Having showered His grace upon the world, He returned to His beloved Dwarka.

Yet the story of the Lord and His bhaktas did not end with Kurukshetra. For His leelas are timeless, His presence eternal and the threads of His will are woven across every age. The war ended, but the divine play continues by guiding, protecting and blessing all who surrender at His lotus feet.

There in Harivarsha Sri Prahlada Rajaru immersed in ceaseless devotion, he continued his eternal worship of Sri Hari, his heart and soul forever anchored in the Lord’s lotus feet. The very breath of Prahlada was devotion. His life unfolded like a garland, each bead and blossom strung with prayer, meditation, and selfless service.

Day after day, Sri Prahlada Rajaru’s heart embraced the lotus feet of Lakshmipati. His mind, pure and tranquil, became a sanctum where Vishnu Himself resided. Free from the pull of worldly desires, Prahlada walked the path of wisdom and bhakti, just as the Vedas proclaim.Sri Prahlada Rajaru was not merely a servant of God, but the very embodiment of surrender. His life proclaimed that existence itself reaches perfection only when it is wholly placed at the feet of the Lord.

Into that sacred Harivarsha atmosphere stepped the great Sri Narada Maharshi, the eternal messenger of the Lord. The moment Sri Prahlada Rajaru beheld his revered guru, his heart surged with joy like a river meeting the ocean.

With tears brimming in his eyes, Sri Prahlada Rajaru rushed forward and fell flat at Sri Narada’s lotus feet. His voice, trembling with devotion, poured forth “Rakshamam! Rakshamam! Protect me, O Gurudeva!”. With folded hands raised high and his head bowed low, Sri Prahlada Rajaru praised his guru Sri Naradaru with the deepest humility. His words quivered with emotion , “Swami, by your divine arrival, my life has become blessed today. This moment is no ordinary one, it is sanctified by your presence. O Guruvarya, kindly tell me, from where have you come, and what sacred message do you bring for me?”

Hearing the humble words of Sri Prahlada Rajaru, Sri Narada’s heart was immediately carried away into the boundless ocean of Sri Krishna’s remembrance. He could not contain the flood of devotion within and cried out, “Ha! Ha! Krishna!”. His voice trembled with longing. Tears filled his eyes and streamed down like pearls of divine love. His body shook, overcome by the sweetness of remembrance. In his inner vision, Sri Krishna appeared, resplendent and radiant, more enchanting than anything in the world.

Forgetting the world, Sri Narada broke into song and dance, his soul drenched in the nectar of the Lord’s leelas and virtues. The air itself seemed to throb with bhakti as his music poured forth like a river returning to the sea.

In that state of ecstasy, Sri Narada embraced Sri Prahlada Rajaru tightly and exclaimed, “Prahlada! O most blessed of souls! Listen carefully. Sri Krishna Himself has spoken to me. He has commanded that to protect Dharma and spread divine knowledge on earth, He will send you, possessed by Vayu Aawesha, and me to be born in the coming age. Tell me, my child can there be any joy greater than this? See the vast ocean of compassion the Lord showers upon His devotees!”

Hearing these words, Sri Prahlada Rajaru’s heart leapt into ecstasy. Joy beyond measure surged through him, as if the heavens themselves had opened. With folded hands raised in reverence, he cried aloud:“Gurudeva! Can this be true? Did Krishna Himself command such a blessing? That in the age of Kali Yuga we shall once again descend to serve Him? O what fortune! What boundless grace! What a blessing beyond imagination!”

Overwhelmed, Sri Prahlada Rajaru fell at Sri Narada’s lotus feet again and again, his voice breaking with gratitude. His body quivered with devotion, unable to bear the flood of divine joy that swept through him. Tears streamed endlessly, bathing the feet of his guru as though each drop were an offering of his very soul.

Sri Narada, his face radiant with tears of joy, smiled with the sweetness of divine play. With a voice trembling in both wonder and delight, he said, “Prahlada! Sri Krishna has revealed to me a secret even more marvelous. In the coming Kali Yuga, I shall be born as your disciple! Can you imagine such a mystery of His leela? The eternal guru made into a disciple and the disciple elevated as guru! Who can fathom the Lord’s wondrous play?”

Sri Narada’s laughter rang out, tender and filled with bhakti, for he saw in this reversal not a loss, but the infinite beauty of the Lord’s will. In that moment, the bond of guru and shishya glowed brighter than ever, woven not by position, but by devotion, surrendered wholly to Sri Hari’s divine plan.

Sri Prahlada Rajaru was struck with wonder. With folded hands he cried:“Gurudeva! How can this be? It is only by your grace that I walk the path of devotion. You are my eternal guide, my light in every age. How can the vast ocean bow before a river? How can the radiant sun take the place of a lamp?”

Hearing these words, Sri Narada’s face blossomed with bliss. With a gentle laugh he replied: “Prahlada, who can question the will of Sri Krishna? His divine plans are beyond the grasp of gods, sages, or even time itself. Do you not remember? On the battlefield of Kurukshetra, when Bhimasena’s mace struck you (Sri Baahikarajaru) down, you prayed for a boon, to be reborn in Kali Yuga, so that you might serve the Lord through knowledge and devotion. Sri Bhimasena, moved by your sincerity, granted that boon. Now, the hour of its fulfillment has arrived. The Lord has ordained it. Our roles are set.”

Sri Narada’s eyes shone as he revealed the Lord’s mystery: “You, Prahlada, shall be born as a saintly king among monks as Sri VyasaTeertharu, shining as a beacon of wisdom and devotion. And I, Narada, shall descend as Sri Purandara Dasa, to sit humbly at your feet and sing the glories of the Lord as your disciple. Tell me, could there be a greater fortune, a greater sweetness of His compassion?”

Having thus spoken, Sri Narada raised his hand in blessing. The air itself quivered with divinity as the sound of his veena filled Harivarsha, carrying the sacred name of Sri Krishna in waves of melody. And in that blissful music, the sage departed, leaving Sri Prahlada Rajaru’s heart overflowing with gratitude and joy.

Sri Prahlada Rajaru remained in Harivarsha, his heart overflowing with devotion, his mind steadfastly fixed upon Krishna’s will. Day after day, he recalled Sri Narada’s words, Sri Bhimasena’s boon and the divine command of the Lord. In quiet anticipation of his destined rebirth, Sri Prahlada Rajaru prepared himself to return to the world.

As the currents of time flowed onward, Sri Prahlada Rajaru, who had once been the Sri Baahikaraja, was destined for another luminous incarnation. He emerged as Sri Vyasa Teertharu, the jewel of the Madhva tradition, guiding countless souls on the path of devotion and knowledge.

Sri Narada Maharshi, the eternal messenger and devotee of the Lord, also descended upon the earth as Purandara Dasa, the father of Carnatic music and Haridasa Sahitya. Through every note and song, he carried the sweetness of bhakti and devotion to Sri Hari.

What a wondrous mystery of the Lord’s leela! In the eternal play of the Lord, the sacred bond of guru and disciple was woven anew timeless, unbreakable and filled with devotion. Together, Sri VysaTeertharu and Sri Purandara Dasaru lifted countless souls, spread the radiant light of knowledge and glorified the sacred, eternal name of Sri Hari throughout the age of Kali Yuga. Even today, the melodious songs composed by Sri Purandara Dasaru resound in every home, filling the air with divine beauty, devotion, and the sweet remembrance of Sri Hari.

From the very dawn of his first birth, Sri RaghavendraTeertharu has carried within him the sacred mission of upholding Dharma. Appearing first as the noble Shanku Karna, then as the exalted Sri Prahlada Rajaru and later as the Hari Bhakta Bahalika Rajaru, he became the unfailing guide who lifted innumerable souls from the darkness of ignorance. With boundless compassion, he led them on the path of righteousness, devotion, and unwavering love for Sri Hari. In every divine incarnation, his life flowed in perfect harmony with the supreme will of the Lord, fulfilling Sri Hari’s eternal desire to protect Dharma and to illuminate the world with spiritual upliftment.

Even in this dark age of Kali Yuga, Sri Raghavendra Swamy stands as a living Kalpa Vriksha and Kamadhenu, ever overflowing with compassion, wisdom, and boundless blessings. To those who surrender at his sacred lotus feet, he grants solace, guidance, and spiritual upliftment. Rayaru is not just our revered Guru, he is the eternal guardian of devotees, the unfailing refuge of the helpless, and the radiant light carrying forward the flame of bhakti for the welfare and upliftment of all humanity.

The devotion towards Sri Raghavendrateertharu is the ultimate truth and is the most simple and effective way to reach Sri Hari  - "NAMBI KETTAVARILLAVO EE GURUGALA"! “Those who have complete faith in this Guru will never be disappointed.”
