Background

The noble divine personality of Sow. Saraswatamma the Sahadharmini of SriVenkatabhattacharyaru (Poorvaashrama of Mantralaya Rayaru) and the Kindheart of Sri Raghavendrateertharu are described in Mantralaya(161)

Meaning

On the eve of this Dhanurmaasa and the beginning of the New Year, I would like to share the important incident that happened during the Poorvaashrama of our Mantralaya Rayaru. Many Devotees have asked about the suicidal act of Saraswathamma, the life partner of Sri Venkatabhatta.

Sri Venkatanatha-Venkatabhatta was born to Smt.Gopamma and Sri Veena Timmannabhattaru in Shaashthika Vamsha(family), Goutama Gotra. Shined and brought Glory to the family as long as the Sun and the Moon are there. Took the task of the Education as Tapasya and became expert and efficient in all the Shastras, Vedas, Vedangas and Puranas. Owing to the Devotion, intense worship of Sri Hari, the great Chetana Sri Venkatabhattaru attained Mantra Siddhi.Lived as per the philosophy Tatva - Sadachara of Sri Madacharya. After the Completion of Studies under the able guidance of Sri Sudheendrateertharu married. Got a son Laxminarayana.Though experienced the bare poverty, never asked Sri Hari for any thing to himself nor to his wife and son .Even then lead a peaceful life with his son and wife. Saraswatamma was very co-operative, noble, kind hearted and did the Pati Seva with great Bhakti. Her maximum kind co-operation in all the works of Sri Venkatabhattaru were really praise worthy.

Sri Venkatanatha accepted Sanyasa by Sri Sudherendrateertharu by the Blessings of Sri Hari and became Sri Raghavendrateertharu. He never aspired nor desired for that high Seat of Sri Madacharya Parampare. All went on as per the Will and Wish of Sri Hari – MoolaRamaDevaru. A Powerful Pontiff of Rayara Matha. A New Era- Manvantara started by Sri Raghavendrateertharu, Popularly called as Rayaru as a mark of respect and regard.

Thus our Sri Venkatanatha-Parimalacharya-Mahabhaashyacharya became the Saint-Yati-Swami. Saraswatamma came to know that her husband Sri Venkatanatha became a Swami.Immediately the idea flashed to her was that she could not see him face to face and cannot do the Pati Seva.So suddenly she decided to end her life, as she thought that she cannot live without her husband.That much of fondness she had in her life.So immediately she plunged into the well, committed suicide. Owing to her strong desire of Pati Darshana she appeared before Rayaru in the form of a ghost.

Rayaru surprised to see her strong desire and took pity for getting this Praeta Janma. Immediately Praying Sri Hari, did the Prokshana with the Holy Water. SARASWATAMMA ATTAINED Mukti from that Janma. As a regard to her Rayaru suggested that Shaashthika Family should perform the Saraswati Pooja first in all the Mangala Karyas and Mahostavas. This practice is still continued till today.Rayaru knew the ability of Saraswatamma so he did it. Though Venkatabhatta had abundant Mantra Siddhi never used for himself. But for the feeling the devotion of high caliber of Saraswatamma praying Sri Hari Rayaru imparted Mukti.Exhibited her greatness - the ability of Poorvashrama’s life partner to the whole world by this act of kindness and nobility.

Sri Rayaru is really Punyatmaru.Rayaru’s Punya is as high as the Himalayan height. This Dwaita Peetha Yati is magnanimously distributing the Punya to the devotees of the Universe.Aparoksha Gnyani Gururayaru’s Protection,Blessings are all nothing but the Miracles by Sri Harisarvottama and Vayujeevottama. By imparting Mukti to Saraswatamma Rayaru made it clear to the world, that during Poorvaashrama she is responsible for all the noble routine of Worship,Adhyayana-Adhyapana, always co-operated happily to become Great.Such a Chetana should not suffer by Praeta Janma, so Rayaru gave Sadgati. This was the first duty after assuming the Charge as the Saint.

So our Bichchale-Bhikshaalaya Sri Appanacharya has described in Gurustotra is perfectly true.
