(Anandateertharu and meaning of Madhwa)

Date : 23 May 2006

Background

The meaning of MADHWA, The importance and the sanctity of the famous BADARI KSHETRA are described in Mantralaya(124).

Meaning

I wish to share with our devotees, the great caliber and the high morale divinity of Sri Madhwacharya -Hanuma - Bheema avataari, who
upheld Sri Harisarvottama and Vayujeevottama to the whole universe with affection in the Mantralaya Series. A  Guiding force and the most
beloved to our Mantralaya Rayaru. Sri Mahwacharya-Anandateertharu was born in Paajaka, a village on the bank of the sea of south Karnataka, very near to Udupi (previously called as Shivalli) Shivalli Brahmins means Udupi Brahmins. Full of nature’s gift, greenery everywhere and we can find the laughter of Mother nature. There a sober, satvika, daivika couple Narayanabhatta and Vedavati lived happily performing the seva of Anantheshwara. The family name that is surname of Narayanabhatta was Nadillaaya - Madhyageha ,gave birth to a male child and named Vasudeva (Anandateertharu) by the grace and blessings of Anantheshwara. Vasudeva attracted the people in his childhood became the most affectionate to his teacher-Guru Sri Achuytapreksharu. Guru liked his shishya so much that in praise for his
intelligence named Purnapragnyaru. It is a matter of honour to all of us, as Vasudeva became Purnapragnyaru by his noble Guru.

The sanctum of Badarikashrama-Badarikshetra is very dear to our Purnapragnyaru, liked Badari as his Pancha Praana. Met Vedavyasaru and heard all the epics of Ramayana, Mahabharata, all the Puranas and Brahmasutra. Sri Vedavyasaru took Purnapragnya to Narayanaashrama.Aanandateertharu felt extremely happy to meet Narayanamuni. Agreed to write Bhaashya to Brahmasutra as per the desire of Sri Narayanamuni and Sri Vedavyasaru. This Bhaashya is the root of Madwa Siddhanta, very beneficial to the world. Rich material, Akshayanidhi to the dwaita yatis : Sri Akshobyateertharu, Malkhed Sri Jaiteertharu, Sode Sri Vadirajaru,Navavrindavana Sri Vyasarajaru, Mantralaya Sri Raghavendrateertharu, Mantralaya Sri Vadeendrateertharu and others gained impetus to compose-write Teekas,Tippanis and commentaries by the Brahmasutra Bhaashya. We are highly indebted to the Divya Chetana of Paajaka.

One day Purnapragnyaru felt that Sri Vedavyasru is calling him. Immediately called all the Shishyaas and said the following:

(1) There is no Punyakshetra equal to Badari.
(2) There is no Teertha equal to Ganga flowing in Badari.
(3) There is no God equal to Vishnu-Sri Hari-Narayana.
(4) There are no words greater than this for the welfare of Manukula.

"Na Cha Madhava Samo Deva Na Cha Madhwa Samo Guruhu." We all Praise Sri Hari and Madhwacharyaru-Vasudeva Madhyageharu-Sri Anandateerharu-Sri Purnapragnyaru-Acharyaru-Sri Madacharya- Bhagavatpaadacharyaru, very dear and near to Sri Hari. Several appropriate meanings of the names of Sri Madacharya simply ponders to think what a stalwart and what a great personality !

After Sri Shankaracharya and Sri Ramanujacharya, it is our Purnapragnyaru to compose Bhaashya to Brahmasutra. As per the desire of Sri Vedavyasaru Anandateertharu stayed in Badari and composed Bhaashya to Brahmasutra with all regards, compliments and accomplishments to Sri Hari. During the sanchaara many came to know about the Brahmasutra Bhaashya. All praised, called and NAMED Purnapragnyaru as Madhwacharyaru-Acharya Madhwaru.

Mahu+Va= Madhwa. Madhu means Honey. Va means Shastra. The Shastra-Tatva-Philosophy-Knowledge of Purnapragnyaru is as sweet as honey to the tongue, lips and the stomach. The way of writing, style, description and imagination are quite pleasing. For all this they called Purnapragnyaru as Acharya Madhwaru-Madhwacharyaru. Very appropriately awarded with praise , honour and affection.

We are proud of Madhwas and we say :

Acharyaha Sri Madacharyaha Santu Mae Janma Janmani. We wish to have our rebirths as Madhwas in all the Janmas.
